About the CSV to JSON and JSON to CSV converter

The TConverter CSV <-> JSON converter turns CSV into JSON and JSON back into CSV on the same page. Pick a direction with the CSV → JSON and JSON → CSV buttons, paste your data or drop a file, and click Convert. The result appears below with buttons to copy it or download it as converted.json or converted.csv. The tool is free and does not require an account.

CSV is the common denominator of spreadsheets, database exports and reporting tools, while JSON is what web applications and APIs expect. Developers convert CSV to JSON to build mock data, seed an application or send records to an API; analysts convert JSON to CSV to open API results in a spreadsheet or load them into another tool. Having both directions in one place saves switching between utilities.

In the CSV → JSON direction, the first row is treated as the header and each following row becomes an object whose keys are the column names. The delimiter is detected automatically, so comma-separated files, semicolon-separated files (as saved by Excel in many European locales, including Turkish) and tab-separated data all work without changing settings. Empty lines are skipped, and numbers and true/false values are recognized and written as real JSON numbers and booleans rather than strings. You can upload .csv, .tsv or .txt files.

In the JSON → CSV direction, the input should be an array of objects; a single object is treated as one row. The column headers are taken from the keys of the objects, so records with the same set of keys give the cleanest result. Nested objects are not flattened into separate columns here, so this direction works best with flat records; for nested JSON destined for a spreadsheet, the JSON to Excel tool flattens nested fields for you.

Parsing and generation are done with the PapaParse library directly in your browser. Your data is not uploaded to a server, which makes the converter safe to use with customer lists, exports and other internal files. There is no fixed size limit for pasted text or selected files; very large files depend on the memory of your device. Switching direction clears the input and output so that CSV and JSON data are not mixed up.

Frequently asked questions

Does the converter support semicolon-separated CSV files?

Yes. The delimiter is detected automatically, so comma, semicolon and tab-separated data are all supported.

Are numbers kept as numbers when converting CSV to JSON?

Yes. Numeric values and true/false values are converted to JSON numbers and booleans. Other values stay as strings.

What JSON structure is needed for JSON to CSV?

An array of objects, such as [{"name": "Ann", "age": 30}]. The object keys become the CSV column headers. A single object is converted as one row.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Files are read and converted in your browser and never leave your device.

Is the CSV to JSON converter free?

Yes. TConverter is free to use and does not require sign-up.
