JSON Splitter
Split objects inside a JSON array into separate JSON files.
About the JSON splitter
The TConverter JSON Splitter takes a JSON array and splits it into separate JSON files, one per element. You can drop a .json file onto the page or paste the JSON into the text area, click Split, and every element of the array is shown as its own formatted document. You can then copy or download each one individually, download all of them in one go, or get them together in a single ZIP archive. The tool is free and needs no sign-up.
Splitting a JSON array is a common step in data work. Many import tools, document databases and APIs accept one record per file or per request, while exports often deliver everything as one large array. Typical cases include preparing fixtures for tests, uploading records one by one to a system that does not support bulk import, sending separate payloads to an endpoint, or simply reviewing a long export item by item.
The input must be a JSON array at the top level, for example [{...}, {...}]. If you provide a single object, an empty array or invalid JSON, a clear error message tells you what is wrong. Each element is written with two-space indentation and numbered in order, so the files are named item_1.json, item_2.json and so on. Elements do not need to be objects; any value in the array, including strings, numbers or nested arrays, becomes its own file.
For downloading, you have several options. Each item has its own Copy button and a .json button. When there is more than one item, Download All saves every file one after another (with a short pause between downloads so that browsers such as Safari do not block them), and Download as ZIP packs all files into json_split.zip, which works reliably in every browser and is the most convenient choice for large arrays. The Clear button resets the page for the next file.
The file you select is read with the browser's file reader and processed locally. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so you can split exports that contain internal or personal data without them leaving your device. There is no fixed size limit in the tool; how large an array you can handle depends on the memory of your own device, and very long arrays produce a correspondingly long preview list.
Frequently asked questions
What input does the JSON splitter accept?
The top level must be a JSON array, such as [{...}, {...}]. A single object, an empty array or invalid JSON produces an error message. You can paste the JSON or upload a .json file.
How are the output files named?
Files are numbered in array order: item_1.json, item_2.json and so on. The ZIP archive is named json_split.zip.
Why should I use Download as ZIP instead of Download All?
Download All triggers one download per item, which some browsers may ask you to allow. The ZIP option delivers all files in a single download and works in all browsers.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and split entirely in your browser; nothing leaves your device.
Is there a limit on array size?
No fixed limit is set. Very large arrays depend on your device's memory and may make the preview list long.
Is the JSON splitter free?
Yes. It is free to use without registration.
