Audio Trimmer
Select the part you want on the waveform, listen to it and download only that part.
About the Audio Trimmer
The TConverter Audio Trimmer cuts a section out of an audio file and saves it as a new file. It is useful for making a ringtone from a song, removing silence or chatter from the start and end of a recording, keeping just one answer from a long interview, or preparing a short clip for a video or a presentation. You choose where the cut starts and ends, listen to it, and download only that part.
When you add a file, it is decoded in your browser to draw a waveform, so you can see where the loud and quiet parts are. Clicking the waveform moves the nearest edge of the selection, either the start or the end, to that point. You can also set Start and End with sliders, which work with the arrow keys for fine adjustments, or type the times directly. Times can be entered in seconds, such as 75.5, or as minutes and seconds, such as 1:15.5, and a decimal comma works as well. The shortest selection you can cut is 0.1 seconds.
Before you trim, Play selection lets you preview only the selected part, so you can check that nothing important is cut off. If your browser cannot decode a file, for example a WMA file, no waveform is shown, but you can still type the start and end times and the trimming still works on the server.
The output can be any of the nine supported formats: MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, M4A, OPUS, AIFF or WMA. By default the trimmer keeps the same format as your input file, and if the input format is not in this list, it uses MP3. The cut is re-encoded, which makes it sample-accurate instead of being limited to frame boundaries, so the clip starts and ends exactly where you set it.
Trimming runs on the TConverter server with FFmpeg, and jobs are processed in a queue. A progress bar shows the real progress, and the trimmed file downloads automatically when it is ready; a Download button is also available. The download keeps your original file name with the new extension. The maximum file size is 50 MB.
Your file is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The uploaded file and the trimmed result are deleted automatically within minutes, and a periodic cleanup removes anything left behind. Files are never shared. The trimmer is free and needs no sign-up.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter the start and end times?
Type them in seconds, such as 75.5, or as minutes:seconds, such as 1:15.5. A decimal comma also works. You can also use the sliders, the arrow keys or click the waveform.
Why is there no waveform for my file?
The waveform is drawn by your browser, and some formats such as WMA cannot be decoded there. You can still type the start and end times, and trimming works normally on the server.
Is the cut precise?
Yes. The selection is re-encoded, so the cut is sample-accurate rather than limited to frame boundaries. The shortest selection is 0.1 seconds.
Which format will the trimmed file have?
By default the same format as your input, or MP3 if the input format is not supported as output. You can choose MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC, M4A, OPUS, AIFF or WMA.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes, audio files can be up to 50 MB.
Are my files kept on the server?
No. Files are uploaded over HTTPS and deleted automatically within minutes after processing. They are never shared, and the tool is free with no sign-up.
