About the image converter

The TConverter image converter changes the format of a picture without installing any software. It reads BMP, ICO, JPEG, PNG, SVG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and TIFF files and saves them as BMP, ICO, JPEG, PNG or SVG. Common reasons to use it include turning a PNG logo into a favicon, saving a WebP or AVIF image from a website as a JPEG that older programs can open, converting a scanned TIFF into a lighter PNG, or producing a BMP for legacy software that accepts nothing else.

The tool works in a hybrid way so that each file is handled where it makes the most sense. When you convert a PNG, JPEG or BMP file of up to 2 MB into PNG or JPEG, the conversion runs directly in your browser and the file never leaves your device. Every other case, such as larger files, ICO, SVG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or TIFF inputs, and BMP, ICO or SVG outputs, is sent to the TConverter server over HTTPS and converted there. If an in-browser conversion fails for any reason, the page automatically retries it on the server.

A few details are worth knowing about the output. JPEG files are saved at quality 90. JPEG and BMP cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white, while PNG, ICO and SVG keep the alpha channel. ICO output is a multi-size icon containing 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixel versions; the image is fitted into a square without stretching and the empty space stays transparent. SVG output embeds your image as a PNG inside an SVG file. It is not traced into vector paths, so enlarging it does not add detail. For animated GIFs only the first frame is converted, and phone photos are rotated according to their EXIF orientation so they do not end up sideways.

You can convert a single file or select up to 20 files at once, each up to 25 MB; several files are converted one after another and can be downloaded individually or together as a ZIP. The server checks that the file content really matches its extension before processing it. Uploaded and converted files are deleted automatically within minutes, and a periodic cleanup removes anything left behind. The downloaded file keeps your original file name with the new extension. The converter is free to use and does not require an account.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image converter free?

Yes. TConverter is free to use, requires no sign-up and does not add a watermark to your images.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

It depends on the file. PNG, JPEG and BMP files up to 2 MB that you convert to PNG or JPEG are processed in your browser and never leave your device. All other conversions are uploaded over HTTPS, processed on the server and deleted automatically within minutes.

What is the maximum file size?

Each image can be up to 25 MB. Files of 2 MB or less can be converted in the browser when the input and target formats allow it.

Does the converter keep transparency?

PNG, ICO and SVG output keep transparent areas. JPEG and BMP do not support transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a white background.

Can I create a favicon with it?

Yes. Choose ICO as the target format and the tool creates a single icon file containing 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixel sizes, keeping the aspect ratio with transparent padding.

Is the SVG output a real vector graphic?

No. The SVG file contains your image embedded as a PNG, so it opens anywhere SVG is accepted but remains a pixel image. The tool does not trace shapes into vector paths.
