About the PDF to Word converter

The TConverter PDF to Word tool turns a PDF document into an editable Word file in .docx format. PDF is great for sharing a document that looks the same everywhere, but it is awkward when you need to change a sentence, update a price list or reuse a paragraph in another report. Converting the file to Word gives you back text you can edit in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer, Google Docs or any other editor that opens .docx files.

Typical uses include editing contracts and forms you only received as PDF, updating old reports or CVs when the original Word file is lost, copying long passages without broken line breaks, and pulling tables out of a document so you can rework them. The converter rebuilds the page content as paragraphs, tables and images in the Word file, so the result is a normal document rather than a single picture of each page.

Conversion runs on the TConverter server. For PDFs larger than 1 MB, the file is first optimized with Ghostscript, which downsamples embedded images and makes the actual conversion faster. Longer documents are split into page groups that are converted in parallel and then merged back into one .docx file. While you wait, the page shows a progress bar and the elapsed time, and the download starts automatically when the file is ready.

There are a few honest limits. The maximum file size is 10 MB per PDF, because converting large documents takes a lot of time and memory. The tool does not perform OCR: a scanned PDF that only contains page images will not produce editable text. For those files you can turn the pages into images with the PDF to Image tool and then use the Image to Text (OCR) tool on TConverter to extract the text. Very complex layouts, unusual fonts and multi-column designs may also need some manual tidying after conversion.

Your privacy is taken seriously. The PDF is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection, processed, and then automatically deleted from the server along with the generated Word file shortly after the conversion. The service is free, requires no sign-up, and does not ask for an email address.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF to Word converter free?

Yes. TConverter is free to use and you do not need to create an account or provide an email address to convert your PDF.

Are my PDF files stored on your server?

Your PDF is uploaded over HTTPS so the server can convert it. Both the uploaded PDF and the resulting Word file are deleted automatically shortly after processing, and they are not kept or shared.

What is the maximum file size?

You can convert PDFs up to 10 MB. Larger files are rejected in the browser before uploading, so you do not waste time waiting for an upload that would fail.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to editable Word text?

No. This tool does not perform OCR, so a scanned PDF made only of page images will not give you editable text. You can convert the pages to images with the PDF to Image tool and then extract the text with TConverter's Image to Text (OCR) tool.

Will the formatting stay exactly the same?

The converter rebuilds text, tables and images as editable Word content and tries to keep the original layout. Complex designs, special fonts or multi-column pages may look slightly different, and for files over 1 MB embedded images may be stored at a lower resolution because of the optimization step.

Why does a large PDF take longer to convert?

Every page has to be analysed and rebuilt as Word content, which is CPU intensive. Documents with many pages or many images take longer; the progress bar and elapsed time let you follow the process.
