About image to text (OCR)

The TConverter image to text tool uses optical character recognition (OCR) to read the text in a picture and turn it into plain, editable text. Instead of retyping a document by hand, you can upload a photo or scan and copy the result straight into an email, a note or a word processor. It is useful for screenshots of articles or error messages, photographed pages from books and handouts, scanned letters, receipts, signs and slides from a presentation.

Recognition is performed by the open-source Tesseract engine running inside your browser. Your image is processed on your own device and is not uploaded to a TConverter server. The first time you use a language, the browser downloads the recognition data for it, so the first run can take a little longer than later ones. A progress bar and a timer show how far the recognition has come.

You can choose the language of the text before starting: Turkish, English, German, French, Spanish or Arabic, or the combined Turkish plus English option, which is selected by default and works well for documents that mix both languages. Picking the right language matters, because the engine uses it to recognize letters and accents such as ç, ğ, ş, ä, é or ñ correctly.

Accuracy depends heavily on the image. Clear, well-lit photos with sharp focus, straight lines and good contrast between text and background give the best results. Blurry, skewed or very small text, decorative fonts, busy backgrounds and handwriting are much harder to read and may produce errors or missing words, so it is worth checking the output before you use it. If no readable text is found, the tool tells you so instead of returning an empty result. For shadowed notebook photos, running the image through the TConverter note cleaner first can make the text easier to recognize.

The tool accepts PNG, JPG, BMP and WebP images, one at a time. The extracted text appears below the image, where you can copy it to the clipboard with one click or download it as a .txt file. It is free and does not require an account.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Text recognition runs in your browser, so your image stays on your device. Only the language data needed for recognition is downloaded when you first use a language.

Which languages are supported?

Turkish, English, German, French, Spanish and Arabic, plus a combined Turkish and English mode for documents that contain both.

How accurate is the text recognition?

It depends on the image. Sharp, well-lit, straight photos of printed text give good results, while blurry images, unusual fonts and handwriting can lead to mistakes, so review the text before using it.

Can it read handwriting?

The engine is designed mainly for printed text. Neat handwriting is sometimes recognized, but results are often unreliable.

Why does the first extraction take longer?

The recognition engine and the data for the selected language are loaded the first time they are needed. Later runs are usually faster.

Is the OCR tool free?

Yes. It is free to use, requires no sign-up, and you can copy or download the extracted text as a .txt file.
